Surrogate Forward Models for Population Inference on Compact Binary Mergers

چکیده
Rapidly growing catalogs of compact binary mergers from advanced gravitational-wave detectors allow us to explore the astrophysics massive stellar binaries. Merger observations can constrain uncertain parameters that describe underlying processes in evolution stars and systems population models. In this paper, we demonstrate black hole populations - namely, detection rates, chirp masses, redshifts be used measure cosmological describing redshift-dependent star formation rate metallicity distribution. We present a method uses artificial neural networks emulate synthesis computer models, construct fast, flexible, parallelisable surrogate model use for inference.

Mergers of Binary Compact Objects
We work out the effects of hypercritical accretion, which transfers mass from the secondary to the primary (first-born) neutron star (NS) in a binary, showing that the mass of the primary would end up ∼ > 0.6M⊙ greater than the secondary NS in contradiction with the very nearly equal masses of the two NS’s in binaries measured to date. We discuss that the primary NS evolves into a low-mass blac...
متن کاملRelativistic SPH Calculations of Compact Binary Mergers
We review recent progress in understanding the hydrodynamics of compact binary mergers using relativistic smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) codes. Recent results are discussed for both double neutron stars and black hole – neutron star binaries. The gravitational wave signals from these mergers contain a lot of information about the masses and radii of the stars and the equation of state of...
متن کاملModel-independent inference on compact-binary observations
The recent advanced LIGO detections of gravitational waves from merging binary black holes enhance the prospect of exploring binary evolution via gravitational-wave observations of a population of compact-object binaries. In the face of uncertainty about binary formation models, model-independent inference provides an appealing alternative to comparisons between observed and modelled population...
متن کاملLong-term remnant evolution of compact binary mergers
We investigate the long-term evolution and observability of remnants originating from the merger of compact binary systems and discuss the differences to supernova remnants. Compact binary mergers expel much smaller amounts of mass at much higher velocities, as compared to supernovae and therefore the free expansion phase of the remnant will be short (∼ 1 10 yr). But merger events with high mas...
متن کاملIntracluster Short Gamma-ray Bursts by Compact Binary Mergers
One of the possible origins of short gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs) is merging of compact binaries, and the effect of large kick velocity is a signature that can be used as an observational test for this hypothesis. Intracluster SGRBs that escaped from a host galaxy in a galaxy cluster are interesting in this context, since they would escape more easily by cluster tidal force, and would have brighter...
